Designed by Robert Dudley Best in 1930, Bestlite was created to bring simplicity to lamp design. Heavily influenced by the Bauhaus principles, he replaced the heavy detailing of the traditional product with a minimalistic design. He emphasized the functionality and practicality of the product. The first version, Bestlite BL1 Table Lamp was widely usedby car mechanics because of its efficiency and adaptability. But it was made famous when it was seen in the possession of Winston Churchill during World War II.
First produced by his manufacturing firm Best & Lloyd, Bestlite products are currently handled by the Danish company, GUBI since 2004. Over the years, the original design and efficiency haveremained unchanged, making it a much sought-after product even today.
Made of high-quality metal, the Gubi Bestlite BL7 Wall lamp is durable and stable. While this is wall mountable, other versions are floor, table and suspension models. The swiveling ball joint connected to the wall enables pointing the light in various directions. The base plate and shade provide a myriad of classy combinations – Chrome or Brass or Black Brass Base plusa movable shade with – Bone China, Chrome, Ivory White or Soft White or Black Semi Matt finishes. The glossy finish also allows easy maintenance. Chrome frames come with or without cable and the brass models always come without a cable.
