Originally conceived in 1934 by Dutch architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld to make use of surplus wooden shipping crates, the Crate Collection has been relaunched through a Rietveld Originals x HAY collaboration, made with deep respect for the original design.

The chair retains the precisely balanced proportions and transparent construction of Rietveld's concept, an approach that minimises production costs and optimises the assembly process. A gently sloping back and supportive armrests deliver comfort and functionality, while the open, spatial design mirrors Rietveld's architectural style and ensures the chair never absorbs space in the room.

Crafted in solid pine with a water-based lacquered finish, the Crate Dining Chair is offered in five colours: Black, Iron red, London fog, Natural pine and White. This makes it easy to match the chair to your dining area, whether you prefer the warmth of natural wood or a bolder, more graphic statement. It is suitable for a wealth of outdoor settings as well as indoor use, and optional seat cushions in selected textiles can be added for extra comfort.

The chair is part of the wider Crate family, which includes a dining table, dining bench, lounge sofa, lounge chair and side tables, so it is simple to build a cohesive, characterful setting around it. Rietveld's mission to create well-designed, affordable furniture for the masses echoes Hay's own values, resulting in a chair that is honest in construction, timeless in form and welcoming in everyday use.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0659/2646/3734/files/Crate_Dining_Chair-life-40bb5010_0878_4317_9f83_f411e5b53128_Crate_Dining_Chair_imag.jpg?v=1793219878
