The composition begins with traditional Japanese woodcut printing, capturing the natural grain, knots and colouring of wood. These printed textures are then cut into shapes and arranged into balanced, graphic compositions, echoing the forms of Mentsen's own Offcut Mobiles, sculptural works crafted entirely from reclaimed wood scraps.

The result is a piece that bridges craft and industrial design, translating the irregularities of natural timber into a refined, considered visual language. Soft organic silhouettes and subtle woodgrain patterns create a quiet, tactile quality that suits both minimalist and warmer, texture-rich interiors.

Each print is produced as a 12-colour Giclée fine art print on FSC-certified, 265g acid-free paper, ensuring gallery-grade quality and long-lasting colour accuracy. All prints are made to order in Denmark, a process chosen to minimise waste and optimise quality throughout production.

Cut Shapes 01 is available in four sizes: 30x30 cm, 50x50 cm, 70x70 cm and 100x100 cm, allowing it to be styled as a focal point or as part of a curated gallery wall.

Created by Mentsen, the partnership between Japanese designers Yasuyuki Sakurai and Risa Sano, this print reflects the studio's ongoing exploration of material, form and the overlooked potential of offcut timber.
