Created by Alexander Girard in 1952, this richly embroidered cushion is part of a collection that celebrates the playful, sensual spirit he brought to modern interiors.

Alexander Girard stands alongside George Nelson and Charles and Ray Eames as one of the defining figures of postwar American design. Although textile design was the core of his work, he also made his mark as a furniture, graphic, exhibition and interior designer. His output added a warm, playful dimension to twentieth-century design that classic modernism had previously lacked. Among his most celebrated projects was the furnishing of the legendary Miller House, where he selected every single object. At its heart was a conversation pit sunk into the living room floor, upholstered in fabrics of his choosing and decorated with specially made embroidered cushions.

For this embroidered series, Vitra worked closely with the Girard family to select fitting motifs from the designer's inexhaustible archive of fabrics and patterns. The result is a cushion with a pleasantly firm feel and elaborate embroidery, here in a soft light grey colourway with the charming Home Sweet Home motif.

The cushion is crafted from embroidered twill and filled with duck half-down for comfortable support. It measures 40 x 30 cm, making it an ideal size for a sofa, armchair or bed. Whether you are a devoted admirer of Girard's work or simply appreciate characterful textile design, this cushion adds personality and heritage to any room.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0659/2646/3734/files/embroidered-pillow-home-sweet-home-hellgrau-875782.jpg?v=1792409007
