vitra-herringbone-cushion
Vitra Herringbone Cushion

The Vitra Herringbone Cushion brings a burst of colour and graphic character to sofas, armchairs and beds. Designed by Raw-Edges in 2019, the collection grew out of the design duo's fascination with dip-dyeing, the almost magical way materials and forms change when part of them is immersed in colour.

Shay Alkalay and Yael Mer built up the pattern through repeated dips in different colours, creating overlapping, intersecting stripes of varying intensity. This process was then translated into an exact template for the printing of each cushion. The result is a fresh, cheerful look: clear colours and a geometric herringbone pattern that still carries the spirit of its handcrafted origins.

The cushion is available in five colours: Olive, Yellow, Red, Blue and Brown. Each one lets you add either a lively accent or a more subtle tonal touch, depending on the palette of your room.

The cover is made of 100% printed cotton, while the filling consists of duck down and feather blend for a soft, comfortable feel. At 40 x 40 cm, the compact square format is easy to combine with other cushions or to use as a single statement piece.

The idea first took shape in 2018, when Raw-Edges furnished a floor of the VitraHaus on the Vitra Campus with a series of cushions and small tree-like wooden objects featuring the dip-dye-inspired pattern. Strong interest led to a series production and the Herringbone collection, which also includes Herringbone Vessels and Herringbone Trees.
