A true collector's piece, this miniature brings a landmark of modern furniture design into your home or office in a refined, desk-sized format.

Aalto designed the original armchair for the sanatorium in Paimio, Finland, a building he planned and furnished himself. In his work, he combined Scandinavian craft traditions and a deep connection to nature with the functional ideas of the Bauhaus. This approach sparked an exchange of ideas with Marcel Breuer and later influenced the work of both designers.

The construction of the Paimio armchair is simple yet remarkably effective. The curled ends of the seat and backrest also act as springs, delivering a level of seating comfort that had barely been achieved with wooden furniture before. Made from just a few easy-to-assemble elements, the design was also ideally suited to serial production, which makes the chair a milestone of industrial furniture manufacturing.

The miniature captures these qualities in precise detail. It is made with a plywood seat and a laminated, lacquered frame, and is produced at a scale of 1:6. The full-size model is manufactured by Artek, the company founded around Aalto's designs.

Part of the Vitra Miniatures Collection, this armchair is a thoughtful gift for design enthusiasts, architects and lovers of Scandinavian modernism, and a quiet tribute to a timeless classic.
