Maarten Baas’s captivation with the element of fire is made evident with this creation of burnt chandelier. Each chandelier is unique because of this unusual burning process. He compares it with the Phoenix bird, rising from its own ashes. This creation is considered to be an iconic representation of contemporary design. Perhaps the incomplete look was given to represent the fire burning away the other three arms. The candles are upward-facing, thereby creating a soft light.
