Piet Hein Eek

Piet Hein Eek is a Dutch designer and maker based in Eindhoven. He graduated from the Design Academy in 1990 with a cabinet built from scrap wood, and that idea has shaped his work ever since: honest materials, visible construction and objects made to last. Since 2010 his studio, workshop, showroom and shop have occupied the former Philips ceramics factory at Strijp-R, where his team builds furniture, lighting and one-off pieces by hand.

The lighting collection carries that same workshop spirit. The Handfolded Lamps are bent from a single sheet of metal, the One Mold lamps come out of one cast, the Sawn Glass lamps and the Solid Glass Pipe Chandelier are assembled from cut glass, and the Poor Man's Lamp and Punched Mesh Lamp make everyday industrial materials the point rather than something to hide. Each piece is made in his own Eindhoven workshop.
