Lighting plan for the kitchen in 4 steps
1. Make a sketch of your kitchen
2. Determine where the connection points and switches will go
3. Determine what type of lighting is needed
For good lighting in the kitchen, you need several types of lighting. Each type of lighting has its own function:
-
Ambient lighting: This is the general lighting that illuminates the entire space evenly. Think of ceiling lights or built-in spotlights.
-
Mood lighting: This creates the right atmosphere in the kitchen. Use LED lighting such as LED strips under cupboards or pendant lights above the dining table as a striking focal point.
-
Functional lighting: This lighting is intended for specific tasks, such as preparing food. LED spotlights above the worktop or a directed lamp near the hob are examples of this.
4. Determine where the types of lighting should go
Direct functional lighting towards the sink, worktop or kitchen island for sufficient light while working. Provide indirect lighting near the worktop, for example spotlights built into the ceiling. This way, you create different zones that are all perfectly lit.
