Magis Linnut
The Linnut collection by Magis, developed with Iittala and inspired by Oiva Toikka’s iconic Birds from the 1970s, reinterprets poetic bird sculptures as cordless, rechargeable polycarbonate light objects that function both as playful lamps and decorative sculptures, even when switched off.
Magis Linnut collection brings a playful and poetic spirit to lighting through a collaborative design by Magis, Iittala, and legendary Finnish designer Oiva Toikka—inspired by Toikka’s iconic Birds by Toikka blown-glass series from the 1970s. The name Linnut, Finnish for “birds”, reflects this lineage, reimagining the beloved bird forms in rotational-moulded polycarbonate that mimics the rich, expressive surfaces of glass while embracing innovative LED lighting technology. Each sculptural piece—Sulo, Siiri, Kirassi, and Palturi—functions as a cordless, rechargeable light sculpture with touch-dimmable LEDs, blurring the line between functional lighting and decorative art.
Designed to be both whimsical and versatile, the Linnut lamps work beautifully as ambient bedside lights, welcoming hallway accents, or delightful accents in children’s rooms, and they remain visually engaging even when switched off thanks to their expressive silhouettes and friendly character. Their playful forms and portable nature make them adaptable to a range of settings—from indoor spaces to casual outdoor evenings—while celebrating Toikka’s imaginative design language in contemporary material form.
